Bioinformatics Scientist — Genomics Platform | South SF (Hybrid/On-site)

Client is a 100+ person genomics company bootstrapped to $80M ARR, processing thousands of sequencing samples daily for 70,000+ scientists including Nobel laureates and Fortune 100 pharma. Expanding from plasmid sequencing into full genomics.

You'll build and own production-grade bioinformatics pipelines at the core of their sequencing engine.

What you'll do

  • Build high-throughput bioinformatics workflows processing thousands of samples per day
  • Develop novel algorithms turning raw sequencing data into fast, accurate insights
  • Integrate cutting-edge tools into real-world production pipelines
  • Translate bioinformatics outputs into scientific UX that feels intuitive to researchers
  • Mentor teammates and contribute to a fast-moving, collaborative environment

Technical Proficiency required: Python, Biopython, Nextflow, Snakemake, Docker, Apptainer, Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, C++, Git


Strong fit if you have:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, CS, Biology, Biochemistry, Statistics, Physics or related field
  • 3+ years production bioinformatics pipeline development (1.5+ years industry, not academia)
  • Expertise in at least one of: microbial genomics, variant calling/large-scale genomics, or bulk/single-cell RNA-seq
  • Hands-on Nextflow and/or Snakemake experience (Nextflow preferred)
  • Experience at a small, fast-moving biotech startup
  • Bonus: novel bioinformatics tool or algorithm contribution

Details:

  • Hybrid, 3 days on-site in South SF (M/W/F)
  • $150K–$180K base depends on experience + Competitive equity
  • TN and H-1B1 accommodated; no new visa sponsorship
